"Based On A True Story"

So, are the movies such as The Haunting of Conneticut, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, ect. trully based on a true story? If they are such true stories, why do they only happen else where of NORMAL places? Like they just so happen to randomly happen in the middle of NOWHERE, or smack dab in the middle of the woods?! Makes no sense to me.

And REALLY! Do things like this happen: ?

If so, why don't NORMAL people see these types of thingss? Any of my friends or family- or even myself!
